Performance returns are annualised for periods greater than one year (p.a. = per annum). NA is shown where an investment option was not in existence at the start of the period. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

What shaped investment performance this year?

The strong performance of the ANZ Smart Choice Super Lifestage options was underpinned by exposure to global and Australian shares, complemented by carefully selected unlisted and alternative assets.

Listed shares remain a key driver of returns. By investing in high-growth sectors across developed and emerging country markets, the Lifestage options captured meaningful gains, with global share exposure offering strong potential for long-term capital growth.

Delivering through diversification

The Lifestage options are also well-diversified, incorporating a balanced blend of growth, defensive, and alternative assets. This includes exposure to unlisted investments such as property, infrastructure, and private credit. These types of assets enhance diversification and typically provide steady, long-term income streams that are less sensitive to market volatility and economic shifts.

As members near retirement, each Lifestage option gradually adjusts its asset allocation to become more conservative. This progressive change is intended to protect members’ savings and help maintain more stable investment performance during the later years of working life.

Staying focused in a shifting landscape

While recent global events - including shifts in US trade policy and rising tensions in the Middle East - have added to market uncertainty, the Lifestage investment approach remains anchored in discipline and diversification. The options are actively managed and well-positioned to adapt to a changing market landscape.

By maintaining a measured and selective approach, we aim to ensure the Lifestage options remain resilient through short-term uncertainty while staying focused on delivering sustainable growth over time.
