ANZ Smart Choice Super: June 2026

Super that helps you build towards a confident retirement

Published on 10 August 2026

ANZ Smart Choice Super 1960s–2000s Lifestage options have delivered strong, double-digit returns for members over one and three years to 30 June 2026

Over the year to 30 June 2026, returns were driven by global technology and AI-related investments, along with diversified assets that helped provide stability.

Returns were also helped by investments that are less affected by daily share market movements. These included investments that earn income from areas such as government-backed contracts and legal settlements, helping to provide additional diversification and stability.

Your ANZ Smart Choice Super Lifestage options automatically adjust as you move through different stages of life. When retirement is further away, more of your super is invested in growth assets to help it grow over the long term. As you get closer to retirement, the mix gradually becomes more balanced to help protect your savings from market ups and downs.

Based on your decade of birth, the table below shows how your Lifestage investment option performed over the 1, 3, 5 and 10-year periods to 30 June 2026.

Note: Please note that all returns are calculated after the deduction of investment fees and tax for accumulation members, but do not include account-based fees such as administration fees. Performance returns are annualised for periods greater than one year (p.a. = per annum). NA is shown where an investment option was not in existence at the start of the period. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Responding to changing market conditions and looking ahead

Investment markets shifted several times over the past year. At different points, uncertainty increased due to geopolitical events, conflicts and policy changes.

During these times, investment portfolios were adjusted by increasing exposure to growth assets when opportunities improved, such as after changes in US trade policy, and reducing risk when conditions became more uncertain, like ahead of the US-Israel and Iran conflict this year. While share markets may not deliver the same strong returns we've seen in recent years, the outlook remains positive.

Investment in technology and AI is continuing to support economic growth, while lower inflation could help reduce cost-of-living pressures for many households.

Markets will always go through periods of change, but super is a long-term investment. That's why we focus on helping members grow their super savings over time, while managing risk and adjusting portfolios when needed to keep them on track for their retirement goals.
