Strong, double-digit returns for all ANZ Smart Choice Super Lifestage investment options for the 12-months to 30 September 2024
Published on 29 October 2024
Our 1960s to 2000s ANZ Smart Choice Super Lifestage investment options, where the majority of our members are invested, all delivered strong, double-digit returns above 16% for the 12-months to 30 September 2024.
Listed shares were the largest contributor to the strong performance over this period. A combination of resilient economic growth, stronger than expected corporate earnings and major central bank interest rate cuts combined to push share markets higher.
Continued deployment into alternative assets such as infrastructure and private credit has also been beneficial as these assets have contributed positively to performance over the year.
Based on your decade of birth, the table below shows how your investment option performed over the 3-months, 1, 3 and 5-year periods to end 30 September 2024.

The Lifestage investment options provide exposure to a mix of growth, defensive and alternative asset classes. The allocation to these classes will automatically adjust, becoming more conservative over time as each decade gets closer to retirement. In this way, the Lifestage investment options aim to help members preserve their capital and reduce the volatility of their returns as they near retirement.
The Lifestage options’ exposure to alternative and unlisted assets – investments in companies and businesses not listed on share markets – continue to provide the Lifestage portfolio with valuable sources of diversification while contributing to longer-term performance. The return patterns from these assets differ from those provided by shares and so are valuable sources of diversification within the portfolio, as well as returns.
